Body Types

As I'm sure we're all aware, each body is different. The way we process food and make gains in the gym are very different from person to person. What a lot of people (including me until recently) don't know is that there are three distinct body types. Not everyone fits perfectly into one of the categories, but are a mix of a couple instead. I think it's important to be aware of how your own body works, that way you are able to be active and eat the way that will benefit you, instead of following someones routine that won't work for you. Fitness and health are very specific to each person. Looking for tips and inspiration is a great idea, but it's also good to find ways to personalize your routine to you. After all, you're the only one who knows exactly how you're feeling and what you need.
Ectomorph
Ectomorphs are generally very lean, with long thin limbs and stringy muscles. They are "small" and "delicate", with thin shoulders and a flatter chest. Ectomorphs have a hard time gaining weight as they have a very high metabolism. In order for these people to gain muscle, they require little to no cardio, eating A LOT of food, and short, intense workouts, focusing on large muscle groups. Supplements are also a good idea.
Mesomorph
Mesomorphs generally have a larger bone structure then ectomorphs. They're shape is rectangular, with defined muscles. Overall, they look very athletic. Although they gain fat easier, they also don't have a hard time gaining muscle mass, and they see results fairly quickly. It is suggested that mesomorphs watch their calorie intake, and are best suited for a combination of cardio and weight training.
Endomorph
Endomorphs are generally shorter, solid, and soft. They gain fat, but also muscle easier, and although their muscles are not as well defined, but they are very strong in their legs. Endomorphs have a harder time keeping the weight off, therefore are recommended to do a higher amount of cardio along with weight training. Reducing carbohydrate intake and eating high amounts of protein will build lean muscle mass for this body type (that does NOT mean cutting out carbs completely).
No matter what type of body you are, you can shed fat, and build muscle, it just may take longer then you had hoped. Be sure to exercise and eat properly for you, and as always, be patient and be consistent.
